Los Angeles Highways & Freeways
• A WorldWeb.com Travel Guide to Highways & Freeways in Los Angeles, California.
Also known as Interstate 10, the Santa Monica Freeway travels in an east/west direction, from Los Angeles (east) to Santa Monica (west) and other communities in between. This is one of the most busiest roads in North America.
Route 66 was established in 1926 and went on to become America's most famous highway. Stretching from Chicago to Los Angeles, the highway crossed seven states (IL, IA, OK, TX, NM, AZ, CA) and traveled approximately 2,450 mi (3,940 km). The highway was removed from the US highway system in 1985 and was replaced by the Interstate Highway System but parts of it have been designated National Scenic Byways and bear the "Historic Route 66" road signs.
